Do you remember that time when the doctor said it wouldn’t hurt a bit, and it did.
Or when Mom said you were going someplace fun. And it turned out to be grandma’s house, where there were no toys, no backyard, and she had thick plastic covers on all the furniture, but she really loved seeing you and made that fruitcake just for you, which wasn’t all that good.
Sometimes people lie for the best of reasons, to help us get past a difficult time.
And sometimes people lie to trick us and make us think they’re doing something for our benefit when they’re really not.
The GOP is calling the latest spending legislation, The Big Beautiful Bill.
That’s like calling the New York sewer system a Water Park.
Maybe they do it because it really is beautiful, well-written, and helpful to every American.
Or maybe because it includes trillion$ in tax savings for the rich, and calling this piece of legislation –
The Big Bill That Guts Medicaid, Medicare, The Veterans Administration, and Makes Every American Pay More in Taxes to Pay for It All – just doesn’t sound as appealing.
Let’s briefly look to our pasts for a moment to better illustrate this
Do you remember when you were a young couple or at college trying to make ends meet, and your partner spent $200 (this was a long time ago) on a new set of golf clubs, and you ended up $200 short on paying rent?
That’s math. The stuff that was taught in classes long ago, but actually still works today.
Another example, stay with me. If you have a $1000 mortgage bill and you have $600 in the checking account (and nothing in the shoebox under the bed where you stash extra cash when you have it), then you have a shortfall (that’s Economics speak) of $400 which you’ll have to get from somewhere.
So, you either ask mom or dad, or get on the phone to your boss and ask if there’s any overtime to work, or you sell your 1960 Bill Mazeroski baseball card, the one with the corner piece missing for $400 and there you have it.
Well, when the Trump Administration and the GOP slash future taxes for the rich by 3-4-5 $trillion, then it’s like that mortgage payment above. Where are you going to get the shortfall from?
That’s math again. The money either comes from higher taxes to the rest of us, or they slash needed programs by the tens of $billions to make up the difference.
Even in the world of paper money that gets printed by the trainload just down the street, Math must be obeyed sometimes.
The Big Beautiful Bill isn’t. The math is all wrong, and the GOP knows that. They’re just too concerned (scared, cowardly, etc.) about re-election to care.
But we need to, since we’ll be paying the difference.
