Dear GOP ...
Hope you're enjoying the Fourth of July celebrations and all it stands for. No really.

Dear GOP,
Greetings from a totally inconsequential and invisible senior citizen out here in the hinterlands, a.k.a. California.
I assume the vast majority of you at GOP headquarters and on the frontlines are celebrating the Fourth and the passing of the Big Beautiful Bill simultaneously. You must be overjoyed.
It’s not every day one gets to celebrate the birth of a nation and plan its demise.
I imagine the cost savings will be considerable, all in keeping with the stated purpose of this bill. Celebrate like hell and save money at the same time.
As an aside, even though I am a democrat in name; whether or not it actually describes who I am and what I think, I have to admit you guys did a great job in getting this bill through Congress.
It was touch and go, ruthless even, and at times, (very brief moments as it turns out), we thought this wasn’t going to happen. But you guys persisted.
And when the truth began to leak and word got out about what you were actually doing. How the cuts in Medicare and Medicaid and other national support programs were really going to take place, the likes of which have never been seen before in our country, you guys closed ranks. Cranked up the propaganda machine, reminiscent of 1930s Europe, and kept repeating - it’s all false. Not going to happen. We’d never do that to the American people.
The BS was glorious. The half-truths and outright lies from every quarter, second to none. And the coordination, gosh it reminded me of a half-time performance at the Super Bowl. The GOP’s ability to have everyone speak with one voice, one message and without missing a beat, put the blame on Biden and Obama, and even Roosevelt at times, was truly impressive.
But back to my main point. Now that you paid homage to your political donors and shown them, one and all, that you can grovel with the best of them, what’s next?
Seriously, I am intrigued by how billionaires adapt to a two-fold or three-fold increase in revenue and profit in a single fiscal year. The stress must be onerous. How do they cope?
But more importantly, what’s the next act? Now that you have an unlimited budget to root out every illegal immigrant, questionable immigrant, or immigrant who’s not tall enough or smart enough, who do you go after next?
Since almost the entire nation is directly connected to an immigrant past, will all of us be subject to deportation?
I know that sounds silly, who’s going to pick the fruit, clean the toilets, trim the trees, pave the sidewalks, jet the sewers, and carry all the luggage up to the suites, if we’re all in South Sudan, right? (By the way, is there a commission scheme in place with that; so much per person who ends up there? Just curious.)
But it is worrisome. With all those agents out there, not looking like agents, not acting like agents (Americans all of them), but, you know, working for the DHS, will there be more mistaken identities? More Americans “detained” for speaking to a fruit vendor on the side of a road. Or making suggestions to their landscaper?
And with $55 billion being spent on a wall, (just a quick aside, can I get some of that to fix the retaining wall in my backyard?) how big will this wall have to be? Will we be able to see it from outer space? Will it work? Will immigrants be building it?
Many questions I know, but heck, the BBB was passed so quickly and so efficiently without anyone getting a real chance to look at it, that the citizens out here are just out of breath and catching up with it all.
We’re worried. And I know you don’t care, well because 75% of the nation said they didn’t want this bill and you passed it anyway, but I get that to be this efficient, you have to ignore a lot of things. Mostly people, because they keep asking about things like, is this legal? All very distracting.
But if you have a moment, and I guess I’m also speaking on behalf of the 45% out there who are or voted Republican, should we be worried? I mean more than we already are?
Will the cuts end? Will the rich take over cities? Will billionaires own every major sporting team around the world, every stadium? Will we all have to wear sports jerseys promoting their team if we live in their cities?
Yeah, lots to think about. Not including rent and food and medicine and school for the kids. Lots going on.
But please, go ahead, enjoy your celebration. Enjoy all the vast savings this bill is supposed create. Hell, you’ll need a little bit more time to come up with reasons why the national debt is still rising so quickly – when it wasn’t supposed to. But I have faith in your party, you’ll come up with a reason, and ram it through with clockwork efficiency and a total disregard for the truth.
At least we can depend on that.
Have a nice day, y’all. Hope you enjoyed the fireworks.
An average citizen,
BRAVO!! You pretty much summed up the sentiment of ALL OF THE TRUE PATRIOTS! Thank you for saying the ugly truth that all of us feel.
